📌 Opening Party: September 27 from 6:00 p.m.
From September 27 to October 27, 2024, Fragile is pleased to present Res Naturae by Andrea Martiradonna, an exhibition that highlights the beauty of plant and animal species through 17 large-format prints. The works, created on a precious and now rare handmade Japanese paper, capture the essence of nature in breathtaking detail, transporting the viewer on a hypnotic visual journey.
Photographs that converse with Design
Martiradonna’s prints depict creatures such as an octopus, a stork, a cuttlefish, three poppies, a flamingo, a jellyfish, a dahlia, and a chrysanthemum, rendered with absolute fidelity to detail that goes beyond simple photography. The deep blacks and pure whites, expertly balanced by light, transform each subject into a majestic icon, able to exalt beauty even in the humblest elements of nature.
The works interact with the unique environment of Fragile’s new headquarters, where iconic pieces by masters of Italian design such as Achille Castiglioni, Vico Magistretti, Caccia Dominioni, Ettore Sottsass, Gaetano Pesce, Angelo Lelii, and many others are exhibited. This dialogue between nature and design creates a suggestive atmosphere where the elegance of the photographs merges with the creative power of the furniture and artworks.
Kozo Paper: the magical touch of Res Naturae
Martiradonna’s photographs are printed on Kozo, a rare handmade Japanese paper that adds a unique tactile and visual dimension. Selected by expert Ivan Pengo from Chartars, the Kozo paper, with its silky striations, perfectly integrates with the textures of the subjects portrayed—like the beaks of storks or fish scales—giving an organic dynamism to the images. This union of paper and photography renders nature’s perfection in an extraordinarily realistic and poetic way.
How to visit the Exhibition
The exhibition will be open from September 27 to October 27, 2024, at Fragile, Via Simone D’Orsenigo 27, Milan, and can be visited Monday to Friday by appointment.
